Restylane Volyme Lidocaine is an injectable medical device for administration only by licensed, appropriately trained healthcare practitioners in a controlled clinical setting, and is not for retail sale or self-administration. It is intended for injection into the supraperiosteal zone or subcutis to augment the volume of the cheeks. At each treatment session, a maximum dosage of 1,5 ml per treatment site is recommended. It must not be injected intramuscularly or intravascularly; introduction into the vasculature may lead to embolisation, occlusion of the vessels, ischaemia or infarction, and rare but serious events, including vision impairment, blindness, cerebral ischaemia and stroke have been reported after intravascular injection of soft tissue fillers in the face.

For adult patients assessed as suitable by the treating practitioner, typically those with volume depletion in the cheeks rather than a single fold to correct. Patient selection, injected volume, plane and technique follow the practitioner's clinical assessment. Because the gel contains lidocaine hydrochloride 3 mg/mL, patients with known hypersensitivity to lidocaine or to amide-type local anaesthetics must not receive it. It must not be used in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to streptococcal proteins, since the gel may contain trace amounts of such material, in patients with severe allergies manifested by a history of anaphylaxis or a history or presence of multiple severe allergies, or in patients presenting with porphyria. It should be used with caution in patients on immunosuppressive therapy and in patients with a tendency to form hypertrophic scars or other healing disorders.
