Juvéderm Volbella with Lidocaine is a sterile, pyrogen-free physiological solution of cross-linked hyaluronic acid of non-animal origin, presented in a graduated, pre-filled, disposable syringe. Each 1 mL contains hyaluronic acid gel 15 mg and lidocaine hydrochloride 3 mg in phosphate buffer at pH 7.2, the lidocaine improving patient comfort during injection.
It is an injectable implant used for the treatment of fine lines and medium-sized skin depressions due to conditions such as premature ageing. It can also be used for enhancement and pouting of the lips, to correct structural defects such as asymmetry, contour deformities and volume loss. It is intended for superficial or mid-dermis injection or lip mucosa injection; for the infraorbital area, also known as the tear trough, injection in the submuscular or pre-periosteal plane is recommended. It must not be injected into the eyelids, and must not be injected into blood vessels, since intravascular injection may lead to embolisation, occlusion of the vessels, ischaemia or infarction; it must not be overcorrected. In patients with a pre-existing tendency for infraorbital oedema there is no clinical data for treatment in that region, and such patients must be warned of the potential increased risk of prolonged oedema. Volbella is not interchangeable with other Juvéderm references, which differ in hyaluronic acid concentration and intended depth.
