The area must be thoroughly disinfected and injection performed under sterile conditions. Bring the product to room temperature for 30 minutes before injection, prime the syringe until a small drop appears at the needle tip, then inject slowly with the least pressure necessary. If the skin blanches, stop immediately and massage until normal colour returns. It must not be injected into an area already containing another filler or a permanent implant, must never be used for breast enlargement or implantation into bone, tendon, ligament or muscle, and must not contact quaternary ammonium salts such as benzalkonium chloride.

Patient profile

Intended for patients desiring correction of contour deficiencies and deformities in facial soft tissue, including HIV-associated lipoatrophy and lipodystrophy. It is contraindicated in hypersensitivity to any amide-type local anaesthetic, not only lidocaine, and in all degrees of atrioventricular block, sinus node dysfunction, severe decline in myocardial contractility, porphyria and supraventricular tachycardias. It must not be used in pregnancy or lactation, in anyone under 18, in patients who develop hypertrophic scarring, in patients with acne or other inflammatory skin disease, acute or chronic skin disease at or near the injection site, auto-immune disorders or immunotherapy, multiple severe allergies, coagulation defects or anti-coagulation therapy, sensitivity to hyaluronic acid, or unattainable expectations. It contains trace amounts of gram-positive bacterial proteins and is contraindicated in patients allergic to such material. Safety in patients over 65 has not been established.

How Revanesse Contour™+ Works

Contour+ is a space-occupying tissue reconstructive material: the cross-linked hyaluronic acid gel occupies volume in the facial soft tissue where it is placed, correcting contour deficiencies rather than acting on the tissue biologically. Its medical indication is the restoration of volume lost from lipoatrophy or lipodystrophy and the correction of contour deficiencies and anatomic deformities, whether of pathologic origin or following trauma. The lidocaine at 0.3% is present for injection comfort, which is also why hypersensitivity to amide-type anaesthetics is an outright contraindication rather than a caution.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Contour+ differ from the rest of the Revanesse range?

Concentration and reach. Contour+ carries 25 mg/mL cross-linked hyaluronic acid with lidocaine and is indicated for medium to deep facial rhytides, extending to volume restoration, lip augmentation and the contouring of depressions. Renew+ sits at 14 mg/mL for skin-level treatment lasting around 4 weeks, while Sculpt+ shares the 25 mg/mL concentration but is placed in the middle dermis.

What should a practitioner do if the skin blanches during injection?

Stop the injection immediately and massage the area until the skin returns to its normal colour. Blanching can signal intravascular placement, which has been associated with embolisation, vision impairment, blindness, skin necrosis and stroke. Any patient showing changes in vision, signs of stroke or unusual pain during or shortly after the procedure needs prompt medical attention.

Is there a limit on how much can be injected in a year?

Yes. Based on a toxicological risk assessment for lidocaine, patients should be limited to 20 mL per 60 kg of body mass per annum. The safety of injecting greater amounts has not been established.
