TEOSYAL RHA 1 is a transparent, sterile, non-pyrogenic and viscoelastic hyaluronic acid filler of non-animal origin from Teoxane SA in Geneva, developed as a light filler of the RHA line. It is indicated for superficial fine wrinkles, skin cracks and depressions, and to enhance the quality of the skin. The gel contains 15 mg/mL of BDDE cross-linked hyaluronic acid with a mean molecular weight above 1 million Dalton, plus 0.3% by mass of lidocaine hydrochloride. Each box holds two pre-filled syringes, each with two sterile 30G 1/2 inch needles and two traceability labels.

TEOSYAL RHA 1 is only to be administered by appropriately trained healthcare professionals who are qualified or accredited in accordance with national law, and is not for retail sale or self-administration. It is injected slowly at variable depths depending on the area treated: into the dermis, subcutaneously, or onto the periosteum. It must not be injected into the epidermis, into or close to a blood vessel, close to a nerve, or at depths other than those described. Depending on the correction required, one or more treatment sessions or a touch-up may be needed to reach an optimal result, which is for the treating practitioner to determine.

For adults assessed as suitable by the treating practitioner, typically those seeking correction of fine surface lines or an improvement in skin quality rather than added volume. It must not be used in patients with cutaneous disorders, inflammation or infection at or near the treatment site, since injection procedures can lead to reactivation of latent or subclinical herpes viral infection. It must also not be used in patients with a known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid with a history of severe allergy or anaphylactic shock, in patients with autoimmune diseases, or in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Because of the lidocaine content it must not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to lidocaine or to amide local anaesthetics, in patients with cardiac diseases or undergoing treatment for heart disease (beta blockers), in patients with hepatocellular insufficiency or undergoing treatment for a liver disease, or in patients with epilepsy or porphyria. For injection in the infraorbital region it must not be used in patients with bags under the eyes (fatty orbital herniation or lymphatic stasis), lower eyelid hyperlaxity or any condition indicated for surgery (blepharoplasty). It must not be used in combination with other aesthetic procedures such as peeling, laser treatment or ultrasound-based treatment.

TEOSYAL RHA 1 works through hyaluronic acid at 15 mg/mL with a degree of cross-linking below 5%, a light, low cross-linked combination in the RHA line. Hyaluronic acid is a major constituent of the ground substance of the dermal extracellular matrix and acts as a molecular sponge, which is what lets this grade hydrate and improve skin quality rather than build volume. The low cross-linking is the point: it keeps the gel fluid enough for superficial placement in delicate regions such as the periorbital area and neck, where a firmer gel would be visible. The lidocaine hydrochloride at 0.3% reduces the sensation of pain during injection.
