Viscoderm 1.6 is a sterile, single-use injectable hyaluronic acid medical device by IBSA, developed to counteract moderate xerodermia associated with dermatitis and/or psoriasis. It is administered intradermally by qualified personnel. The highly purified sodium hyaluronate comes from fermentation, is not chemically modified and has a molecular weight of approximately 1 million Dalton, close to that of endogenous hyaluronic acid. Each 1.5 ml pre-filled syringe holds 24 mg, equivalent to 16 mg/ml.

Viscoderm 1.6 is a sterile, single-use medical device for intradermal use, to be sold on medical prescription only and administered by intradermal injection by qualified personnel only. It is injected at ambient temperature under strict aseptic conditions, intradermally at medium-deep level using a linear or picotage technique, with the 30G x 1/2 inch (0.3 x 12 mm) needle included in the kit. The recommended posology is an initial cycle of three treatment sessions at one-week intervals, possibly followed by monthly maintenance sessions. Because the 1.5 ml pre-filled syringe allows a whole session to be completed with a single syringe, it is advisable to replace the needle halfway through the treatment, for example using two separate needles to treat the whole face. Do not inject intravascularly, into the muscles or tendons, or for breast enlargement. Do not mix with other products, and do not mix with disinfectants such as quaternary ammonium salts or chlorhexidine, as a precipitate may form. The content of the pre-filled syringe is sterile and the outer surface of the syringe is not; do not use after the expiry date or if the packaging is open or damaged. Do not re-sterilise and do not reuse. Once opened, use immediately and discard after use.

Viscoderm 1.6 is indicated for adults of both sexes. The device restores the normal physiological condition of the dermis in cases of xerodermia related to dermatitis and/or psoriasis, and the 1.6% concentration is indicated to counteract moderate xerodermia. Suitability is determined by the treating practitioner. The injection site must be on healthy skin. It must not be used in pregnant or breast-feeding women, in patients with autoimmune diseases, or in cases of known hypersensitivity or allergy to the components of the product. It must not be used in conjunction with treatments such as laser resurfacing and medium-deep peeling, and must not be injected into areas where inflammatory processes are present.

Viscoderm 1.6 delivers highly purified sodium hyaluronate, obtained by fermentation and not subjected to chemical modification processes, directly into the dermis. The viscoelastic and moisturising properties of hyaluronic acid, combined with the possibility of maintaining it at adequate levels in the skin tissues, rehydrate the tissues and create the optimal conditions to prevent and combat the process of dry skin, favouring tissue remodelling. Intradermal administration restores the physiological quantity of hyaluronic acid in the treated tissues. At a molecular weight of about 1 million Dalton, very close to the natural molecular weight of endogenous hyaluronic acid, the product is totally biocompatible. The 1.6% concentration is the mid concentration of the three in the range and is the one indicated for moderate xerodermia.

The three concentrations share one intended use and differ by the degree of xerodermia they address. Viscoderm 0.8 (8 mg/1 ml) is indicated to counteract slight xerodermia, Viscoderm 1.6 (24 mg/1.5 ml, equivalent to 16 mg/ml) moderate xerodermia, and Viscoderm 2.0 (20 mg/1 ml) severe xerodermia.
Is the hyaluronic acid in Viscoderm 1.6 chemically modified?
No. The hyaluronic acid is obtained by fermentation and has not undergone chemical modification processes, which results in excellent tolerability. It is highly purified, with a molecular weight of about 1 million Dalton, very close to that of endogenous hyaluronic acid, making the product totally biocompatible.
