Belotero Intense Lidocaine
Belotero Intense Lidocaine by Merz Aesthetics is a sterile, non-pyrogenic and viscoelastic injectable biodegradable implant, a colourless, transparent filler of cross-linked sodium hyaluronate of non-animal origin, intended for filling deep facial wrinkles and folds and for restoring and enhancing soft tissue. It is placed in the deep dermis for naso-labial folds and marionette lines, and submucosally or subcutaneously for lip enhancement, and the grades of the range are not interchangeable. Each 1 mL syringe contains 25.5 mg/ml of cross-linked sodium hyaluronate, obtained by fermentation of Streptococcus equi, with lidocaine hydrochloride 3.0 mg/ml (0.3%) in a physiological phosphate buffer at pH 7. Its lidocaine helps reduce local injection pain and improve patient comfort.

Patient profile
Suitable for adult patients assessed as appropriate by the treating practitioner. The product is contra-indicated in cases of known hypersensitivity to any of its components, especially sodium hyaluronate, lidocaine hydrochloride, BDDE or other amide-type local anaesthetics; in pregnant and breast-feeding women; in patients under 18 years old; in patients presenting a general infection; and in patients presenting an active auto-immune disease. It must not be injected into blood vessels, into areas presenting cutaneous inflammation or infection of immunological, allergic, bacterial, fungal or viral origin, into an area previously treated with a permanent dermal filler, or into the glabellar or nose region. It must not be used in association with other aesthetic techniques such as peeling, dermabrasion or laser treatment before complete healing of the last treatment, and in no case earlier than two weeks after it. Particular care applies to patients taking anticoagulant, antiplatelet, thrombolytic or anti-inflammatory medication, and to patients pre-disposed to hypertrophic scars or keloids. Patient selection and suitability are determined by the practitioner at consultation.
How Belotero Intense Lidocaine Works
Belotero Intense Lidocaine works through cross-linked sodium hyaluronate, supplied at 25.5 mg/ml with lidocaine hydrochloride 3.0 mg/ml in a physiological phosphate buffer at pH 7, made up to 1 mL. The gel is sterile, non-pyrogenic, viscoelastic, colourless, transparent and of non-animal origin, and acts as an injectable biodegradable implant that fills deep facial wrinkles and folds and restores and enhances soft tissue. Placement is what defines this grade: it goes into the deep dermis for naso-labial folds and marionette lines, and submucosally or subcutaneously for lip enhancement. The lidocaine acts locally during administration to reduce pain associated with injection of the gel and does not alter that mechanism.
